Can Cannabis be used as psychedelic? Or antidepressant?

Dr. Alexandra Kupferberg (PHD) is a medical director at PhytoXtract Ltd, and researcher about medical use of cannabis and its future potential. In this series of 2 articles, she compiles knowledge about the question “Can Cannabis be used as psychedelic ?”.

2nd Article: Emerging evidence for the antidepressant effect of cannabidiol

The second literature review is about key findings of the antidepressant effect of cannabis. Still, there is need for more clinical studies in humans.

      – Preclinical studies have shown that CBD induces antidepressant-like responses with a single administration causing a rapid and sustained effect in different animal models, and Mechanism of action of CBD.
      – A recent observational study in humans has indicated that medicinal cannabis use may reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms in clinically anxious and depressed populations 11.
